Energy Australia abnormal voltage readings question?
A couple of our appliances (3 – Vacuum, Aircon, Dryer) at home have recently blown their motors all in one week – possibly more in the previous month.
We called up Energy Australia and they said we were the first home to get power from the pole in our street, they are monitoring our energy with a power analyzer.
From the readings it gives us, it shows the power hitting 250V’s and possibly going over when we are not around and going to 230V’s….
**Would my appliances blow because they are getting to much or too little power?
**If I had a lot of things plugged in the house would this cause a higher or lower voltage around the house?

Your position on the street should make no difference at all.
The appliance power use (and subsequent heat dissipation) is very sensitive to voltage changes. A 1% change in voltage will cause a 2% change in the power.
Too much voltage is a more likely cause of burn out than too little, although certain types of motors can overheat with an under-voltage is they slow down because of it.
House wiring systems are normally designed so that the voltage isn’t reduced by having everything on.
I think EA should figure out what the problem is with the line voltage (since their own measurements show a wide variance).
